Farewell to Southwest Farmer's Market

Fresh Farm's Southwest Farmer's Market season is closing out and will reopen in the Spring of 2011.

After browsing all the colorful vegetable options, I ended up purchasing fresh arugula, Black Russian Kale, apple cider and a savory watermelon and cucumber "pleasant pop".

Pleasant Pops, sounds sort of like a late night rendezvous.

Often we take for granted our hardworking local farmers, but we definitely miss them when they aren't around.

If The Redskins Started Practicing Yoga...

Can we attribute the recent Redskin victories to a more spiritually balanced football team? Does Donovan McNabb find his chi before he passes a Hail Mary?

I doubt it.

But, a recent Sports Illustrated article explored yoga and football by focusing on San Franciso 49'ers Tony Parrish's Yoga Work Out. Parrish credits yoga for helping him recover from injuries.

Parrish doing a level 4 locust pose!

At least one Washington Redskin Rusher Chris Wilson slipped in an upward dog before the season kicked off. This makes me think he can't possibly the only athlete who feels the benefits of yoga.

New in Takoma Park! Princess Mhoon Dance Institute

I stumbled upon a little jewel in Takoma Park, The Princess Moon Dance Institute on Willow Street NW.

The Princess Moon Dance Studio founder and leader is Princess Mhoon Cooper, a professionally and internationally trained dancer and choreographer.

I blindly signed up for the Alvin Ailey 2 Dance Master Workshop. Somehow, I happened to overlook the word "Master" and thought I could hang. Well, I couldn't.

Expert Solomon Dumas taught us choreography from the classic "Revelations". The performance was full of plies, high kicks and spins leaving me feeling dizzy and dumb for even trying.

You still have two more days to be among the dancing elite. It is well worth the money to see top notch Alvin Ailey dancers up close and personal. Look out for the next workshop at Princess Moon Dance Institute with Janet Jackson and Beyonce's choreographer.
